With the screenwriters’ strike still fresh in the memories of film industry executives, Hollywood studios are scrambling to avoid another damaging walk-out, this time by the 120,000 members of the Screen Actors Guild.
The union, the largest in the entertainment industry, is expected to start negotiations next month with the studios on a contract that would replace its existing agreement, which expires at the end of June.
Several films could be affected by a strike, with production on Warner Brothers’ Justice League of America and DreamWorks’ Transformers 2 among the films with tentative start dates around the time a strike would be called.
